We had a great week in Fort Bridger. Saturday morning I pulled out with Ava shortly after 7:15 am on my way to Buford. We had a long day of driving with a lot of wind and it only picked up as we went. By the time we stopped at Mt. Sherman Summit at the rest area the wind was so strong I it was like walking up hill and the road signs were warning of 40 MPH gusts. It is challenging enough pulling a trailer that outweighs your vehicle by double. I do have to admit that I should of been a bit more choosy in my spot. I was able to pull in and get out of the flow of traffic just enough but should of went on to find a back in space. With the winds I could not risk putting on my canopy and would not risk a campfire (still need to have my first one).
We had a nice quiet breeze evening even though the air was pretty thin up there for me. I had wanted to take Ava on a hike there but with the wind and sun it just didn't happen.
We pulled out at about 7 am again with a long day in front of us. I am quickly learning I can only average about 60 mph and you need to add an hour for a supplies stop, gas, and bathroom for both me and Ava. She is learning to go near the highway with cars whizzing by. Today we wound up driving about y417 miles and 8 hours on the road. I am quickly learning 6 hours and roughly 360 miles is how far I should push myself. Nebraska roads are rough and the scenery is pretty bland. We did make it to Henderson, NE where we are staying through Friday. Friday afternoon I will have a short hop about 2.5 hours and stay in a low cost county park before pushing on 375 more miles to SW of Chicago at Illini State Park where I have a spot reserved for Saturday night and then another 350 miles push to get to my sisters house on Wixom Lake (or what was and will be again in a few years).
